A New Era
I've watched this industry change three times. On-premises to cloud. Batch to real-time. Now AI.
The first two taught me the same lesson:
- Cloud gave everyone infrastructure on demand. The companies that won used it as a reason to rebuild. The ones that moved without changing anything got the same mess with a bigger bill.
- Real-time gave everyone speed. But faster data only pays off when the business changes how it decides. Put it in front of the same slow decisions and you've built a more expensive dashboard.
Both times, the technology showed up on schedule. The value only showed up for the companies that did the harder work underneath.
AI is the third shift, and it's different. For the first time, the software makes decisions on its own. That raises the bar for everything around it: the data it reads, the systems it can reach, how it's secured, and how anyone knows it's still right. When one of those is weak, the model doesn't fail quietly. It repeats the mistake, fast, in front of your customers. Most teams find that out after launch.
That makes this a new era for Kinetic Edge too.
We started with data engineering in 2022. That work grew into the rest of what a production AI system needs: the models and agents, the platform they run on, and the applications people use. Today we build the whole system, secure by design.
We've worked the same way since the start. The first step is to look at the quality of the data and the underlying infrastructure. The first thing we ship is the smallest version that works in production, and it grows from there. Sometimes the honest answer is that AI isn't the right tool, and we say so, even when it costs us the job. And from the first week, we're planning for the day your team runs it without us, because if they can't change it, it isn't really theirs.
The next few years will separate the companies experimenting with AI from the ones running on it. Everyone I talk to has the ambition. Getting it to hold up in production is harder than it looks, and it's the most interesting work I've done.
If you're putting AI somewhere it has to work, tell us what you're building.
